Caladium

I potted up some Caladium tubers in April. And I waited. And waited. And waited.
I had just about gven up when in June when I decided to dig them up and see what was happening. Some were rotten, some not. I had a glimmer of hope.

Caladiums require warm soil for any growth to take place, so I moved them outside and hoped for the best.

I had a few sprouts, then the squirrels dug around in the planter and shattered my hopes once again.

Well, I stuck it out, and today I have one gorgeous leaf, and many more that are on their way. The pink spotting (which I had not expected, they were supposed to be white caladium) goes beautifully with my newly painted porch. I've moved them there after having learned that they enjoy partial shade, and I couldn't be happier with the color combination.

Growing.
